A short review on S. Vidaković's translation of a French textbook on physics from the XIX century "Traite elementaire de physique experimentale et applique et de meteorologie suivi d'un recueil de 100 problemes avec solutions" by A. Ganot is given. A special attention is given to the parts of the book with astronomical subjects. The authors want to indicate that from this example it can be seen that in Serbia as early as in the XIX century textbooks of European quality level were recommended for use in the schools preceding university so that S. Vidaković's efforts should be praised.
