In order to obtain experimental data defining the point(s) at which sensor contamination occurs, and to identify the remedial steps required to correct the problems, attention is given to the performance degradation of the Space Shuttle's Cryogenic IR Radiance Instrumentation high-straylight-rejection telescope during its fabrication, assembly, and testing. Remote microscopy and IR spectroscopy will be used to identify the type and level of contaminant present during each BRDF measurement.
