Features in the continuum radio emission of the components of radio galaxies can be used to set an upper limit on the velocity at which the components are receding from each other. Data are presented for the spectra of the components of two well observed sources, Cyg A and Cen A. The similarity between the spectra of the components in each case is interpreted as evidence for the lack of an appreciable Doppler shift. The separation velocity has a radial component of less than 0.03c. The small width of the integrated radio spectrum of the compact sources in the nuclei of 3C 84 and 4C 39.25 implies that the separation velocity cannot be very large, in agreement with the results of long-baseline radio interferometry.
