Narrow-band spectrophotometry at selected wavelengths between 3571-7850 A are reported for the supernova 1979c in M 100. Observations cover five nights immediately after discovery. A blackbody temperature near 9000 K is derived. UBV color indices and bolometric corrections for blackbodies are given and used in conjunction with published photometry to estimate the distance to the supernova.
