This asteroid 1985 CQ 1 (designation by the Minor Planet Center, Cambridge, USA) was discovered on a plate taken at the Grand Prisme Objectif, La Silla, Chile. We have obtained 45 observations from 1985 February 10 to February 28. The reader will remember that the residuals on the reference stars give only a part of the error. We give the equation between error, residual r and error-effect ef (computed by simulation): star true error = r/(1 - ef). From three observations we deduced a preliminary orbit by means of the Gauss-Encke method. The amelioration by variation of geocentric distances was obtained and gave the provisional orbit. In the future, observations will be necessary to have a final orbit. Then, the Minor Planet Center will give a number to this asteroid.
