Scientific paper
The paper presents new JHK photometry and spectrophotometry observations of four satellites of Saturn and three satellites of Uranus. The presence of water ice is verified on Enceladus from spectral signatures and identified on Hyperion, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon. The JHK photometry confirm Cruikshank's conclusion (1977) that the Uranian satellites have overall surface reflectances different from other water-ice-covered satellites so that the reason for the difference remains unclear. Finally, diameters and the masses of the Uranian satellites are reviewed in light of probable high albedo representative of ice-covered surfaces and the new dynamical studies by Greenberg (1975).
