This paper shows that if the luminosities and masses of the components of a binary system are known, the type of configuration of equipotential surfaces corresponding to it can be determined, using the diagrams presented. Attention is given to libration points, to Hill surfaces that contain colinear solutions, and to ascertaining the eventual mode of exchange or loss of mass.
