The paper presents morphological and kinematic evidence that the dust band in Cen A is in the form of a tube or cylinder inclined to the line of sight and which passes through the nucleus. The H II regions associated with the dust band show a velocity dispersion of 200 km/s superposed on the systematic motions described by Burbidge and Burbidge and by Graham. We are led to believe that the structure of the dust band is a consequence of the nuclear activity of Cen A.
