The strength of the 4-0 S(1) transition of H2 is 1.54 plus or minus 0.09 x 0.0001/cm (km amagat). This is in good agreement with theoretical predictions, but at variance with published laboratory measurements. A pressure shift for the same transition was measured to be -0.0065 plus or minus 0.0014/cm amagat between 2.58 and 1.65 amagats, which is close to the predicted value of semiempirical theory.
