Observations of the H 112alpha, H 90alpha, and H 85alpha lines in the direction of NGC 253 are reported. The H 112alpha line was detected with a peak flux of 12 m Jy, a central velocity of 204 km/s, and a width of 175 km/s; only upper limits were obtained for H 90alpha and H 85alpha. Together with other data, these results indicate that the recombination lines from NGC 253 are strongly enhanced through stimulation by the nonthermal nuclear continuum source.
