A review and updating is provided of the IRAS (Netherlands infrared astronomical satellite). The purpose of the project, the evolution of the IRAS project, project schedules and how they are being met, and the division of labor between project participants come under discussion. The ANS (Netherlands astronomical satellite) project is reviewed as precursor and point of departure of the IRAS developments. Cooperation with NASA, industrial participation, milestones reached in the development of the project, and comparisons of ANS and IRAS parameters are dealt with.
