The shape of the spectrum of interplanetary plasma inhomogeneities is investigated using data obtained by direct space-probe measurements and by observations of radio-source scintillation. The results indicate that there are at least two types of plasma turbulence in the interplanetary medium: large-scale inhomogeneities with a spatial frequency of less than 0.01 per km and small-scale inhomogeneities with a spatial frequency greater than this value. It is suggested that the large-scale inhomogeneities represent density variations in the proton component of the interplanetary plasma, while the small-scale inhomogeneities are caused mainly by the electron component.
