Results are reported for a search for a Lyman-alpha halo around the quasar PHL 957, which was conducted using a beam-switching pulse-counting photometer with an interference filter and a circular focal-plane diaphragm. Hypothetical halo sizes and masses are considered, the observing procedure is described, and uncertainties in the results obtained are evaluated. Within the limits of uncertanties in telescope pointing, no halo was detected down to a limiting surface brightness far below that of the night sky.
