Deep plates taken in the near-infrared with a 4-m telescope under good seeing conditions have revealed a highly reddened compact cluster, probably globular, located in the error box of the X-ray burster MXB 1730-33. No persuasive candidate has been found for another burster MXB 1728-34, either on 4-m plates or on a deep plate taken with a low-dispersion objective prism. These observations make it possible to draw a number of conclusions regarding the physical properties and galactic locations of these sources.
