The Einstein observations of M31, looking for variability of the X-ray sources up to time scales of approximately 100,000 are analyzed. Two sources are significantly variable. The characteristics of their variability are discussed and constraints on their possible periodicity are derived. The observed X-ray luminosities, the pattern of variability, and the optical identifications suggest the possibility that one of them is low mass X-ray binary and the other one a compact massive X-ray binary.
