A simple photochemical model is used to investigate the variation of the
expansion velocity of cometary comae at different solar distances.
Within certain constraints, the theoretical results can be shown to
follow a similar pattern observed in the expanding CN shells detected in
comet Halley by Schlosser and coworkers.
