We present the results of our recent studies on the stellar associations and gaskinematics of the irregular galaxy IC 1613. We have found that expanding superbubbles (also called giant shells) cover the whole extent of this galaxy and not only its NE region as thought before. Furthermore, the superbubbles contain at least one stellar association in their interiors. From the comparisonof the dynamical time scales of the superbubbles with the ages of the stellar associations, we conclude that the more massive stars in the associations are quite important in shaping the interstellar medium of the galaxy. This is illustrated in two particular cases. We find several arguments in favor of a physical link between the interior associations and the superbubbles. On the other hand, we also find that, in certain cases, other stellar associations arepreferentially located at the superbubbles boundaries, suggesting that shock induced star formation is taking place.
