An analysis of the kinematics of the late supergiants in the LMC is presented. A probable transverse motion of the LMC of 150 km/s with respect to the Galactic center is determined. This motion permits the kinematical major axis to be aligned in the direction of the geometrical line of nodes at a position angle of 168 deg. The other components of Population I provide very similar results, confirming that this transverse motion is smaller than previously estimated. The position of the kinematical major axis is found to be locally variable. Apart from that derived for neutral hydrogen, the rotation curves of all the components do not differ significantly and provide consistent parameters for the overall motion of the LMC. Comparison between H I and stellar velocities indicates a tight similarity between the motion of the stars and that of one component of H I which defines the regular motion.
