M107 is a globular cluster in Ophiuchus, about 2.75 degrees south of Zeta Ophiuchi. Like M105 and M106 it was discovered by Mechain but was apparently never seen by Messier. In 1947 Helen Sawyer Hogg identified it as being NGC 6171 and suggested it as an addition to the Messier catalog with the designation M107.
