M106 is a spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici just over a degree and a half south of the fifth-magnitude star 3 Canum Venaticorum. At eighth magnitude it is fairly easily within reach of small telescopes. Mechain discovered it in 1781 and mentioned it in the same letter to Bernoulli as his discovery of the objects now known as M105 and M107.
