M92 is an exceptionally ancient globular cluster in Hercules which would be better known if it were not overshadowed by M13. It was discovered by Johann Bode in 1777 and rediscovered in 1781 by Messier, although since it is bright enough to be just visible to the naked eye under ideal conditions it is surprising that it was not recognized earlier.
