This paper presents measurements of the F layer peak electron density, N(m), the height of its peak, z(m), and the meridional-neutral-wind velocity performed at Arecibo (Puerto Rico) during 14 World Day campaigns, covering one half of a solar cycle (1985-1989). The results show a clear solar cycle dependence of N(m) and z(m), with the lowest values of N(m) and z(m) observed in 1985-1986; however, the effect was far less obvious for the meridional neutral winds. A comparison of N(m) values with those predicted by the empirical IRI model (Bilitza et al., 1988) showed reasonable agreement.
