Scientific paper

Theoretical and observational data on solar flares, particularly in the
area of magnetic field reconnection, are analyzed. The gamma-ray
spectrum of a large solar flare observed with the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer
on the SMM is presented. The problems associated with the inability to
observe the primary energy release site are mentioned.
