Global-MS-Net is a new network of forward-scatter stations built and operated by amateur radio observers. The network was founded during 1997 after years of preparation. Here, we present the first year's meteor counts from seven participating stations and discuss their relative performance. Three outbursts of known meteor streams were recorded. Six other possible outbursts were investigated, but no outburst of a new stream could be confirmed with certainty this year. Further improvements of the network are needed.
