The study of the shape of pressure broadened alkali resonance lines is of great practical and theoretical importance for brown dwarf atmospheres. Much effort has been expended in this direction, particularly in the last 5 years. These studies have emphasized the non-Lorentzian behavior of the line profiles. It is well known that the impact approximation, which assumes that collisions occur instantaneously, causes the Lorentz theory to fail not too far from the line center. Our aim here is to present unified calculations of sodium perturbed by molecular hydrogen emphasizing how they deviate from Lorentzian profiles. Calculations have been done for the D1 and D2 lines at 1000 K.
