A three-level flow component model of atmospheric response to large-scale orographic and thermal inhomogeneities of the earth surface is used to study the effects of surface friction and turbulent heat transfer on the structure of atmospheric stationary planetary waves. Analytical relationships are developed for the case of single planetary waves, which reproduce the dependences of the amplitude and the phase of the wave on the parameters of turbulent exchange, zonal flow, and spectral representation.
