Several theories of the planetary boundary layer that retain the flow
accelerations in approximate form are compared. Two special test cases
focus on the role of either local or convective accelerations. The
semigeotriptic theory of Cullen predicts the boundary layer pumping most
accurately for the cases and parameter range considered here.
