Dark Filament Current-Flares

Scientific paper

Based on the close relationship between flares and dark filaments, we propose that the magnetic field in an active region be a superposition of the sunspot field and the field induced by the filament current. We calculated the changes in the filament current under the Kippenhan-Schlüter model and compared our results with those of Van Tend and Kuperus. We found: 1) Because current circuits have many forms, they have completely different laws of rising when the current increases. 2) The change in the magnetic flux due to a current increase and notion nay be either one of increase, or decrease, or remaining constant. 3) Combined with the present popular models of flares, the above conclusions can explain why the heights and forms of flares are so varied.
