The Daresbury Recoil Separator (DRS) has been installed for nuclear astrophysics research at ORNL's Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility. It will be used for measurements of radiative capture cross sections with radioactive ion beams. The DRS is a large-acceptance recoil separator that utilizes two velocity filters and a 50^circ dipole magnet to separate beam particles from recoils of interest. A position-sensitive carbon-foil microchannel plate and a ΔE-E gas ionization chamber have been installed at the focal plane of the DRS. We report on the performance of the separator in measurements of elastic scattering and of the ^1H(^12C,^13N)γ reaction. Planned radioactive beam experiments with the DRS will be discussed.
