The optical spectra of the X-ray binary GRO J1655-40, taken during
periods of high optical brightness, can provide important information on
the kinematics of the system, on the mass of the primary (confirming its
nature of BH), on the size and physical structure of the disk, and on
the effects of X-ray irradiation.
