George Alcock of England discovered a bright nova in Herculis on March 25 at 4:35 UT using 10x50 binoculars from inside his house through a plate glass window. The nova was intially estimated at 5th magnitude. Its position (Epoch 1950) is: 18h 44' 12.5" +12° 10' 51".
Astronomers at the Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy at the University of CO and at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics are continuing their observations of R Coronae Borealis stars with the IUE. See the Alert text for a list of stars that need observations.
