Redshifts have been obtained for galaxies close to the dominant galaxy in the cluster A2029 in order to investigate the nature of its population of faint satellites; in particular, a determination of whether these galaxies are in the process of being cannibalized by the cD has been attempted. No difference in the velocity dispersion of galaxies close to the cD and those drawn from the general cluster was found, however, suggesting that the fraction of galaxies bound to the cD is small. Unfortunately, the security of this conclusion is weakened by the presence of unexpected structure in the velocity field, as this may imply that there is severe contamination of the inner sample by a subclump, or that the cluster core has not yet reached virial equilibrium.
