The history of the Mark-I National Radio Astronomy Observatory-Cornell VLBI system is reviewed. The development of the system, the first experiments, interaction with the Canadian LBI group, and cooperative studies with Sweden, Australia, and the Soviet Union are examined. The discovery of superluminal motion, organizational problems with VLBI observations, and the development of the very long baseline array are discussed.
