It was initially intended to launch the Signe 3 spacecraft (final
version of D2B satellite model for a gamma astronomy mission) using the
French Diamant BP 4 launcher. Because the vibration specifications of
the Soviet launcher are much tougher, a damping system was designed and
developed.
