New findings which clarify a sequence of processes leading to a magnetospheric substorm are considered. The interaction between a solar stream emanating from the coronal hole and the magnetosphere is discussed, taking into account the relationship between the solar magnetic structure and the interplanetary magnetic structure. Details regarding the MHD dynamo process associated with the solar wind-magnetosphere interaction are shown with the aid of a schematic diagram. Attention is given to magnetic field observations, plasma sheet thinning, plasma flow, cusp motion, and energy flux.
