A discussion is given of counts of faint galaxies and stars to a
limiting B magnitude of 24 on plates taken with a 6-m telescope and
other telescopes. The observational data conform closely to a Friedmann
cosmological model and impose definite constraints on possible
evolutionary effects in the luminosity and number of galaxies.
