The detection of linear polarization in the 2.2-micron radiation from the Galactic Centre is reported. The polarization amounts to 8.1 plus or minus 1.5 percent at a position angle of +12.5 plus or minus 7 deg. The position angle coincides with that observed for visible stars in the same region of sky. Polarization by aligned interstellar dust grains may account for the observation.
