The stability of one-dimensional galactic spiral shocks is considered from the computational point of view using fully time-dependent equations. The shocks at any given galactic radius are found to be stable over several rotation times. In addition, attention is given to the effect of changing the spiral pattern speed on the structure of the shocks at varying radii, and by comparing the results with observations of the interstellar medium. It is found that a value of approximately 20(km/s)/kpc seems to be the most plausible estimate for the spiral pattern speed at the present time.
