Scientific paper

The paper examines the effects of XUV emission from solar flares on the propagation of radio signals in the earth-ionosphere waveguide. Two principal effects are emphasized: sudden frequency deviations of HF signals and sudden phase anomalies of VLF signals. It is noted that there is an unexplained discrepancy between observed and calculated profiles of sudden phase anomalies.
