Consideration is given to aspects of the determination and accuracy assessment of the orientation of a topographic photograph and satellite-centric directions at a point on a planetary surface with reference to a star photograph. The linear elements of external orientation are determined by integrating the differential equations of motion of a planetary satellite, and the angular elements of external orientation are determined with reference to a star photograph obtained by a stellar camera aboard the satellite. The stellar camera operates synchronously with the topographic camera which takes photos of the planetary surface. Differential formulas are presented, and modeling results are given.
