A possible connection between two empirical astrophysical laws, one of which relates the intrinsic angular momentum and the magnetic moment of stars and planets and the other of which relates the total angular momentum and the mass of astronomical systems, is suggested. It is shown that both relations seem to indicate that the fine structure constant is the typical dimensionless parameter not only of atomic physics, but also of gravitational physics.
