The paper shows that the z-distribution of virtually every Population I-type species that can be studied at radio wavelengths exhibits systematic deviations from zero as a function of Galactic radius. The z-distributions are examined for radio H II regions, supernova remnants, H I regions, and molecular clouds exhibiting CO and OH emission, located at Galactocentric distances of no more than 10 kpc and in specific longitude regions. It is found that all the objects considered are systematically displaced from the Galactic plane at certain radii, that the deviations interior to 7.5 kpc represent a truly large-scale phenomenon, and that the various species almost uniformly lie at negative z between Galactocentric distances of 6 and 7.5 kpc. The results are taken to imply that the gas in the interior of the Galaxy does not lie in a single plane, that the molecular clouds must actually lie around the potential minimum of the Galaxy, and that the Galactic potential is not planar.
