Optical emission line intensity measurements are presented of the high-ionization Seyfert galaxy T 0109-383. Using the transauroral to nebular ratios of [0 II] and [S II], the extinction to the forbidden line region is found to be AV = 1.6 mag. The reddening corrected [Fe VII] spectrum indicates a temperature and an electron density in the high-ionization zone of <3.5×104K and 2×106 cm-3 respectively. While this supports the notion that the higher ions are photoionized in Seyfert galaxies, a significantly higher assumed value of the extinction (AV > 2 mag) to the high-ionization zone would be consistent with an [Fe VII] temperature of≡105K and collisional ionization.
