The advantages of the block-adjustment (BA) reduction of meridian observations are described. The conditional and normal equations are obtained for a solution in the form of corrections to the coordinates. Weights of the instrument constants and coordinate corrections are compared for BA and traditional reduction, and the BA reduction is found to be superior in terms of accuracy of results when the possibility of obtaining a statistically valid model of the instrument is considered.
