A discussion is presented of the variability of the binary BL Tel outside the eclipse with the aid of published radial velocity and photometric observations. The average period for this oscillation, which is caused by the F type supergiant companion is 65.1 d. However, this variability is not strictly periodic. The shape of the light-curve is subject to strong variations. Radial velocity and light-curves are in phase with each other, making the star rather exceptional. It is probably not a small-range Cepheid of population I as sometimes suggested.
