Longitudinal differences in the seasonal wind regime in the midlatitude D-region have been found on the basis of coordinated horizontal-wind measurements in Central Europe (a GDR station) and Eastern Siberia (the Badary station). These data can be interpreted as the manifestation of the meteorological control of the D-region, and as expressing the dependence of the dynamics of the lower thermosphere on the climatic features of the region studied, and on the state of lower atmospheric layers. It is suggested that climatic differences between Central Europe and Eastern Siberia may condition differences in the characteristics of internal waves propagating upward from the troposphere and stratosphere, and determining the dynamic regime of the D-region.
