Scientific paper

The properties of the X-ray reflection spectra from accretion discs and
their variability (or lack of it) are briefly reviewed. Particular
emphasis is given to X-ray observations of two remarkable active
galaxies, MCG-6-30-15 and the Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 1H 0707-495, and to
the short-timescale variability of the Fe emission in NGC 3783
