Anisotropic models are applied to elliptical galaxies, with good photometric and kinematic data. Special emphasis is given to detailed testing of the isotropy - including assessment of the (small) effect of the inclination of the galaxy, and the sometimes (dramatic) effect of the seeing limitations. In good agreement with previous global tests, it is found that anisotropy appears only in bright ellipticals, and it is suggested that it comes from the merger building of cD class galaxies. Due to insufficient radius coverage, it has not been possible, however, to specify the kind of anisotropy that prevails. Accurate M/L ratios are derived, and found to remain within a small range independently of the absolute magnitude.
