For the first time an extinction map derived from star counts is
presented for the whole sky. Large structures are detected like the
Corona Australis loop or extensions of molecular clouds (Orion, Taurus).
This map allows the selection of specific area for near-infrared surveys
like DENIS and comparison with far-infrared and molecular emission.
