Nicolaus Copernicus has introduced a new almost inertial reference frame with the origin located in the Sun and axis going toward distant stars. This approach opened a way for Kepler, Galileo and Newton which resulted in the formulation of general laws of kinematics, dynamics and the structure of space. Copernicus also, in a way, created a big Universe; paralactic motion of distant stars predicted by Copernicus was observed three hundred years after his death.
